In just a short space of time, the Nether Edge Farmers’ Market has become a hugely popular and successful event.  Today’s event was even blessed with brilliant sunshine.

For those who haven’t been, the event is held at the bottom of Nether Edge Road and part of Glen Road and is organised by the Nether Edge Neighbourhood Group (NENG) and other local residents.  The stalls sell a huge range of homemade food, drink, crafts and books and is an excellent opportunity to support small-scale local businesses and community groups.  There are also stalls promoting the work and raising funds for local charities such as the Parish of St. Peter and St. Oswald and the Abbeydale Picture House.  The market also receives a lot of support from many of the local shops and the Nether Edge Bowling Club, some of whom open specially.  There is also an area used for music and other entertainment.

This event has also been given a boost thanks to support from the old Area Panel, chaired by Nether Edge Councillor Ali Qadar, which agreed to cover the cost of the legal notice needed to close the roads for the event.  Although only a small sum of money in the grand scheme of things, for an event like this it is crucial to make it a financial success as well as a popular and enjoyable community event.

For details of the next Farmers’ Market, keep your eye on the NENG website.
